Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Sunbeam Motor Company had entered a lorry for the forthcoming show, but has reluctantly withdrawn it, as it is not ready.

* *•Mr. A. H. Adams is in America. Ile hopes to conclude agency arrangements for the vehicles which are constructed in the shops of the Adams Manufacturing Co., Ltd., at Bedford, and one of whose good features is the " pedals to push " control.

I met Mr. Leo. Harris in Leeds in great feather; he had just come from Edinburgh Exhibition and glowed as he said that " everyone " was there (I had just told him that I was absent— but that's a triviality !). I inquired if he had anything fresh, and he assumed a characteristic, sphinx-like expression and said that Marston's were coming out with something very shortly that would astonish us—Marston's is like Dickens' character the Todgcrs, " They can do it when they like."

I was permitted to have a peep at one of the first of the " Airedale " vans built at Hunslet, Leeds, including the engine, and I was impressed with several features, amongst which was a new carburetter. This had a glass window through which one could observe the action of the petrol after spraying, and made it easy to determine if more or less air were required. The engine shows 22h.p., R.A.C. rating, and the maker is the Leeds Motor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Balmoral Street, TIuns let, Leeds,

Greenwood and Batley, Ltd., of Leeds, has an unassailable reputation in engineering, and at last year's show

introduced a petrol-electric vehicle. The show came at an awkward time, and the company was hardly ready; it has now gone into matters with the usual thoroughness, and, I think, will now acquit itself to advantage. Mr. Brown, the manager, tells me that a new " Motel " engine has been fitted,

and it has passed some fine traffic, and hill-climbing, tests. Mr. Brown will be prepared to give some demonstrations in London before the show, and has already driven the chassis up to town, for a body built by Dodson.

I have seen still another new vehicle on the stocks, at an engineering works in Yorkshire ; this will shortly be put on the market. It is of to-12h.p., with short wheelbase and suitable for either a light van or cab. It is being built throughout, engine included, in a large engineer's whose reputation for highclass work is second to none. I am not permitted to give further details or mention names, but when this chassis is ready it will command attention.

I looked in at the Manchester Motor Car Show in St. James's Hall on Friday—that being the opening day— but I saw few people interested in the business vehicle, and it accentuated the regret I already felt that two separate shows should be held in Manchester. Cottonopolis is such a fine industrial centre and as such is well worthy of the manufacturer's attention, but the deadlock caused by the society in prohibiting bondsigners from exhibiting at Belle Vue will have a deleterious effect on that show, and, to my mind, Manchester ought to be exempted. I am sorry some arrangement could not have been arrived at. Shrewsbury and Challiner were apparently going strong and it was good to hear Mr. Challiner, jun., report business generally as being

excellent. " THE EXTRAf2TOR."
