Coventry-based manufacturer Motor Panels introduced its Mark III Standard Cab System in 1964, augmenting it with the 2.5m-wide Mark IV in 1966.
Although technically a 'system' rather than a unique design, the strength of this cab range was the seemingly endless variations on a theme available to truck manufacturers.
The cab of choice during the 60s and 70s for Seddon and Guy, Motor Panels also enabled other manufacturers such as Atkinson, ERF, Foden and Scammell to offer a steel alternative to their fibreglass models. AEC and Raba also used the cab, albeit in small numbers.
Lower-volume manufacturers were able to make good use of the design, with Argyle, FTF, Mack of France (pictured), Shelvoke and Drewry, Unipower, Vickers-AWD and Werklust all benefiting from the classic design beloved of welding enthusiasts everywhere.
