Farmers are not buying used trucks as frequently as they once did, according to Allan Hilton of King's Lynn, Norfolk-based Oaf dealership Ford and Slater.
"The days of the old Foden parked up a corner of the farmyard have pretty much gone," he says. "They've all acquired more modern trucks and they've discovered that electronics plus limiting the speed to 56mph have made them so reliable and durable that they're reluctant to change.
"Remember that apart from those who put a driver on and do a bit of haulage, most farmers only use their trucks for six to nine months of the year."
