Operations director John Arkle ran Waugh Services for 20 years with 50 vehicles before it was bought by Fergusont. It was MD Alan Ferguson that asked him to take on the haulage operation.

Arkle bought an Iveco EuroStar, but says it wasn't held in high esteem in the trade. "However I was impressed by the aftersales serVice with NETV. And in the last five years [Ivaco] has really come into the game."

Fergusons' operations include general haulage and specialised logistics work. Drivers are as likely to tramp for a week as they are to workday, night or weekend shifts. It is very possible we will buy some in the neW year' Arkle believes that in the Stralis, Iveco has given NETV a product to match its network capabilities. "Iveco has to have a stronger network. It has one of the best in the North with NEW, but it needs to be enhanced by a stronger and larger network," he says.

On the appraisal form, the driver feedback is all positive, A hard bottom bunk and low headlights were the only issues.
