by a significantly upgraded model, the SLX.The by a significantly upgraded model, the SLX.The improvements begin with a smooth restyle but go much deeper, and are claimed to reduce running costs by up to 20% compared with the SL. Efficiency is improved with new blowers and a condenser coil with 80% more face area, which allows the Yanmar B5 biodiesel-compatible engine to operate at lower speeds, reducing fuel consumption and noise. This, together with a cooling system that has doubled in capacity, enables service intervals to be increased to 3,000 hours. Major components have also been relocated to give easier access and improved weather protection.

The SLX 100,200 and 400 have maximum cooling capacities of 9,500,13,200 and 17500W respectively. The previously optional Smart Reefer 2 control system is now included as standard.

In an acknowledgement of the developments it has made in noise reduction. Carrier Transicold has received the John Connell 2007 Award for Technology from the Noise Abatement Society for its Vector 1850 Xtra Low Noise (XLN) trailer refrigeration system.

The company developed the technology in the UK and Holland to comply with Dutch noise regulations —known as Piek — which limit the level of permitted noise at various times during the working day and, more crucially, at night.

The Vector 1850 XLN achieved an impressive 59.5dB, coming in below the Piek maximum requirement of 60dB(A) for the allimportant 11pm-7am period.

To achieve this, the engineers repositioned the engine in a highly insulated undermount.
