Lorry action areas Sir Arthur recognises th severe problems caused by loi ries in some areas, such as Lor don's Archway Road which cal ries 7,000 lorries daily, an Newark and Hazel Grove wit 3,000 daily. For these, he suE gests that Government fundE boosted by lorry taxes, be use to provide special financial aE sistance.
The grants would not be use for major road schemes, but fc minor improvements to ease rE sidents' problems. they coul also be used to pay for daubl glazing, repairs to damage homes, improving road surface to reduce vibration, and irnpro% ing pavements to prevent lorrie from cutting corners.
