Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SCOTLAND: M8. At the St James Interchange, Paisley, the eastbound carriageway only is in use and drivers are urged to take extra care.

Northern England:M6 (Cumbria). There are carriageway closures in operation at Lowther Bridge, south of junction 40 (A66 Pen rith exit).

Drivers are warned to take care in icy conditions on roads in the north of the country. Local expenditure cuts may result in some roads not being gritted at crucial times. Many roads in the North-east are not being sanded or gritted.

Midlands: Ml. In Northamptonshire there are various lane closures along a ten-mile stretch between junction 16 the A46 Daventry 'exit) and junction 18 of Rugby. Delays are likely on the southbound carriageway.

M6. In Staffordshire, the northbound carriageway is reduced to one lane just north of junction 14 (Stafford north). Heavy congestion and delays can be expected. Southbound traffic and the access/exit road at junction 14 will be affected.

Wales and the West: Penzance, Rebuilding of the Ross Swing Bridge will continue until April and drivers are urged to use the Market Jew Street route as an alternative.

South-east England: M4. At the Membury service area, the restaurant on the London-bound carriageway is closed until May, 1981. All other facilities are still available, however, and the footbridge can be used to reach the restaurant on the westbound side.

M26. This new road, linking the M20 and the M25 between

Wrotham and Dunton Green (Sevenoaks) has now been opened. But drivers are warned that there are no sliproads westbound until the Godstone exit and, in addition, the Sevenoaks interchange (M25/M26/A21) is a restricted access junction. It is not possible to join the M26 to travel eastbound from the A21, nor can traffic leave the M26 when travelling west to join the A21.

Al, Reconstruction work on the Rowley Lane flyover on the Barnet by-pass will mean occasional closures of one or both carriageways between now and March, mostly at weekends.

A2. There are extensive delays on both carriageways near the Dartford tunnel/Swanley (M25) exit of the motorway due to repair works. A contra-flow system is in operation which requires extra care. Delays will continue until December 22.

Ireland. Major roadworks at Bachelor's Walk, Dublin, have started and will result in diversions until next May. At least one lane of traffic is in use at all times at Bachelor's Walk and Ormond Quay, and the normal direction of traffic flow has been reversed on Liffey Street Lower.

International. All heavy vehicles using the Grand St Bernard Tunnel linking Switzerland and Italy will need snow chains until April 30. Entry may be refused if vehicles are not adequately equipped.

The •Customs post between Hungary and Austria at Sopron/Klingenbach has been closed to goods vehicles until the end of April.
