FREIGHT Transport Associatic members in South Wales hal been assured that several roc programmes will go ahead the future.

Addressing the Association South Wales division luncheo Parliamentary Under-secreta of State for Wales, Micha Roberts said that in developir the road policy, the first priori remains the improvement those roads which aid the ec nomy and are crucial to mo hauliers.

"More specifically these a the links in the north and sou of Wales which connect our ov industrial centres with the ma spine of motorways to the ea: this will then allow us fri access to the.materials and rrq kets of England and Europe."

Mr Roberts said that the Bri gend northern by-pass will opi next summer which will give r most continuous motorwr from west of Swansea to Lo don. Preparatory work on if proving the missing section h tween Raglan and Lonlas (fro Port Talbot to Morriston) is al going ahead and a public inqui has already been held.

"This massive investment the motorway programme mt. be exploited to the full and % believe that better communic tions will encourage new inve: ment in industry and c. someway to relieve the uner ployment problems."

Mr Roberts feels that there c be little doubt that the futu economic strength of Wales yr increasingly depend on light dustry which will demand e cient freight transport.
