• North Staffordshire coach operators decided at an emergency meeting following the latest freeze by the Government to seek "substantial" fare Increases to cover the extra cost of 5d a gallon on fuel.
Mrs. Margery Thompson, chairman of the . coach operators' association, said that hired coaches and express services did not receive the rebates offered to ordinary bus operators. She added: "For small operators, the effect of this legislation could be disastrous and we have written to MPs in an attempt to get the situation sorted out."
