Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Government is to carry out a review of the types of vehicles which can use motorways—and will be prepared to see whethet a wider range of heavy transport should he given this freedom.

This was announced by Mr. Bob Brown, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, in the Commons this week. But, he warned, he could see danger in allowing on the motorways vehicles longer, heavier, and slower than breakdown vehicles of up to 11i tons unladen weight.

Mr. Brown was speaking during a debate on a move to allow these larger breakdown vehicles to use the motorways—a change which was eventually agreed to.

This limited proposal should endanger no one, said Mr. Brown, but the Ministry would want to look further into any wider concession. For this reason the Ministry is next year to carry out a general review of the Classes of Traffic Order when other vehicles would be considered.
