to Replace Lorry

AN application by Silver Roadways, Ltd., Liverpool, to surrender a special A licence for one vehicle in favour of an A licence to cover two separate trailers was refused on Monday by the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay. After hearing the decision. Mr. J. W. Vannicliffe, a director of the company, said he would be content with one trailer. This was granted, with no opposition from British Railways, who had objected to the first application,

Mr. Vannicliffe said the two trailers would carry about the same amount of traffic in a year as the special-A vehicle. Producing figures in support, he, pointed out that there were no objections from road operators.

Mr. G. H. P. Beames, for the railways. said witnesses should have been called. He thought the trailers would be impracticiblc.

When it was suggested by Mr. Lindsay that a further application could he made with more evidence, Mr. Vanniclitfe made his offer to replace the vehicle with only one trailer.
