IN a circular issued to members of the

North-Western Area of A.R.O., Mr. John Hopkins, Liverpool secretary, mentions that the North-Western Licensing Authority draws attention to the following matters:—

Applicants must bring to the inquiry the taxation registration books of all vehicles at present owned and used, and should be prepared to produce information as to the districts within which their vehicles are to operate, and the classes of goods to be carried.

Applicants for licences or for variations which involve an increase in the number of vehicles already licensed, or in carrying capacity, would be well advised to produce the following information, if it be available:—Tonnage carried per quarter for each quarter since April, 1932; receipts per quarter during this period, and mileage per quarter.

Where the applicant proposes to support his application by a contention that the vehicles at present authorized are insufficient, he mayfind it desirable to produce drivers' records in confirmation of his evidence.

Policy Outlined to West Wales Operators.

Mr, .Arthur Andrews presided at a meeting of Swansea and West Wales operators, organized by the A.R.O:. at Swansea, and he was supported by Messrs. A. Kimpton (Newport), area secretary; T. R. Jenkins (Landore), Swansea secretary; and Norman Neale, chairman of the Swansea Committee.

An address was given by Mr. R. W. Sewill, national director, who stressed the determination of the Association to press for lower taxation, an improved road system, a cessation of raids on the Road Fund, limit-free arteries enabling commercial vehicles to average 30-35 m.p.h., and a special road and transport board to deal with questions of transport and highways.

A meeting arranged by the A.R.O. has recently been held at Cardiff, when Mr. Sewill spoke. Mr. E. W. Morris, chairman of the Cardiff area committee, presided.

Act Explained to Burnley Operators.

A series of monthly addresses arranged by the C.M.U.A. Burnley area opened last week, when Mr. H. H. Lapsley gave a lucid explaaation of legislation affecting road transport and the manner in which the administration was carried out. Many questions on licensing problems were asked and answered. Mr. W. E. Macve (chairman of the Division) will be the speaker at the January meeting.

A.R.O. Metropolitan Committee Meets.

Membership and organization were amongst the matters considered, last night, at the first meeting of the Metropolitan Area Committne of A.R.O., as represented by delegates from the haulage, ancillary users' and passenger sectional boards.
