• A Bolton international haulier allegedly drove a vehicle away from a test station in the middle of a test after it was found to be defective. Now North Western Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth has given him 28 days to produce documentary evidence of his financial situation and vehicle maintenance, or face having his licence revoked.

Vehicle examiner Colin Wade. love said Graham McGlynn, of Slater Lane Industrial Estate, presented a vehicle for prohibition clearance which was found to have serious defects. McGlynn reversed the vehicle out of the test lane without warning and left the test station.

When Wadelove arrived at McGlynn's depot he was refused access to the vehicle: McGlynn drove it into the garage and locked the door. The police were called and McGlynn was cautioned for using a prohibited vehicle and obstructing a vehicle examiner and the police. Wadelove understood that prosecutions were pending.

Maintaining that the vehicle had never actually entered the test station, McGlynn said Wadelove had not been present at the station. He had not reversed off the test lane as he was never on it. He drove away bemuse of the way the vehicle was being inspected with a 4ft crowbar.

Waterworth referred to a witness statement from the test station manager confirming the condition of the vehicle and that McGlynn had reversed off the test lane and had left the site. The TC said McGlynn's attitude to 0licensing was not acceptable and he was on the verge of losing his licence_ His actions struck at the heart of the system.
