HAULIERS in Austria are up in arms about an alleged abuse of permits by Bulgarian State Transport firms which send over 150 trailers a day into the country. The official quota is only for 110.
The Austrians have only a small quota of transit licences through Yugoslavia and transport from Austria to the Middle East is jeopardised, it is claimed. Further, the State owned Bulgarian companie carry out the third-countr3 transports which includ( goods from Yugoslavia tc Britain and Germany whict the Austrians cannot accept because of lack of permits.
One in three Bulgariar vehicles are arriving empty ir Austria and hauliers there sa) that these are being used tc accept traffic intended foi third countries at cut rates.
The Austrian Ministry 01 Transport hss been accused ol not pressing for more permit from Hungary, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria in order tc increase the share of the railways in freight traffic, though this has been denied.
