MMEDIATE action should be aken to protect the interests of people using overseas emovals companies.
This demand came this veek from Mr-George Skelton, nanaging director of Pickfords temovals. It follows the ecent failure of companies pecialising in this field and he stranding of hundreds of amilies without their furniure or household effects.

"Inevitably," claimed Mr Skelton, "there will now be lelays in completing these moves and when the goods finally arrive heavy additional charges will have to be paid."
Long-running talks within the Removals Industries Trade Association about consumer protection to cover this type of situation are still going on.
In the hope they can give the industry a lead Pickfords are urgently negotiating a £500,000 bond, similar to that introduced for holiday tour operators, to cover its foreign removals traffic.
"Fortunately," said Mr Skelton, "business failures in our field are rare, but the two recent collapses are a salutary reminder of the misery they can cause and the need for swift remedial action."
