Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DESPITE a group profit after tax of £184,000 for the first six months of this year compared with £291,000 for the comparable period last year, York Trailer Co Ltd has expressed a cautious belief that the worst is now past.

At its meeting on August 4, the company declared an interim dividend of 7.37 per cent compared with 6.70 per cent in 1975 for the comparable period.

Before tax, the profit realised was £384,000 (£605,000 in 1975) for the half .year to June 30. The second quarter showed an improvement from £177,000 in the first quarter to £207,000.

Presenting the half-yearly report, Mr Fred Davies, the company chairman, was opti mistic about future trends. The introduction of new tandem suspension had significantly aided the increase in new orders and it was possible to forecast cornpany manufacturing operations at full stretch for the balance of the year, he said. Conditions also justified expansion of the rental company operations.

The possibility of the nationalised steel industry failing to deliver might inhibit full recovery, but if the company could escape this threat, results should certainly be not less than those achieved in 1975.

Significant growth is planned for the recently acquired Anthony Carrimore.
