Hot Spray Paint System WHEN paint is sprayed cold a certain amount is wasted, because high air pressure_ is needed to break the paint up into small particles--high Pressure evaporates solvents in the paint but. unavoidably, paint solids are carried off as well. With a new low-pressure hot spray system recently announced by The Acrograph-DeVilbiss Company Ltd., however, a higher percentage of these solids are deposited on the surface— achieved by adjusting the solvent content to allow the use of unusually low air pressures for atomization.

Under this system water is heated in a separate electric unit, and is pumped to the heat exchanger where the paint itself is heated. The heated paint is transferred to the gun through a heated hose, which maintains constant temperature up to the spray gun. The paint is never in contact with the heating element, so there is no risk of it hardening.

Practical advantages claimed for the system are: saving in paint (spray fog is virtually eliminated),smoother finish (there is less tendency towards orange peel effects, fatty edges, sags and runs). increased production speed, and consistent spray results. Further claims made by the makers are that using this equipment operators can work more comfortably in confined spaces, booth maintenance is considerably reduced, and there is considerable horse-power saving on air compressors.
