ASUDDEN lull has occurred in the announcement of the names of buyers of transport units. Such purchases as have been revealed in the past week are well distributed over the country, but all the units arc

small. NORTHERN AREA Sunter Bros., Ltd., Boroughbridge Road, Northallerton, have succeeded in recovering two 25-tormers and a 25-ton pole outfit which were taken over from them

by British Road Services in 1951. The vehicles were being operated by Pickfords from their Leeds base. In addition, Sinner Bros. have taken over from Elliott (Hauliers), Ltd., York, a Scammell 45tonner and trailer, which were originally run by Pickfords fromEirtley, Newcastle npon Tyne.

Two Commer 64onners and a :Dodge 6-tonner, based at Stooktart-on-Tees, have been acquired by Mr. T. Tench, 11 Tyne Street, Wirdaton, Blaydon-on-Tyne, Be already -has 15 vehicles and is -running services from Newcastle upon Tyne to Tees-side, Liverpool and Manchester.

Messrs. Athersmith Bros., Abbey Road Garage, Barrow, who have already bought four vehicles, have nOw acquired a further nine (34 tons 6 cwt.), two trailers (4 tons 18 cwt.) and a container, Another repeat purchase has been made by J. W. Capstaff, Ltd.,. Little Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne, who this dine have acquired five vehicles (22 tons H cwt.) and have assigned them to John Lee (Haulage), Ltd,, of the-same address. Two vehicles (13 tons 14 cwt.) have been taken over from B.R.S. by Mr. G. B. Gowlerid, Poplars, Long Bank, Birtley, Gateshead, and four (12 tons 3 cwt.) by Mr. J. Johnston, Solway House, Gilerux.

W. Coxon, Ltd., Annfield Plain, Bedlington, have assigned one vehicle (4 tons 2 cwt.) to Mr. F. Dodds, 2 Stakeford Road, Bedlingtort; Mr. A. CawthOrtt, four (15 tons 101 cwt.) to Cawthorn and Sinclair, Ltd., Durham Road, Birtley; John Lee (Haulage). Lid., one (5 tons 4 cwt.) to Mr. J. N. Atkinson, Etherley Moor Garage, Bishop Auckland.

NORTH-WEST There is the usual batch of assignments this week. Jones Transport Services (Liverpool), Ltd., 58 Regent Road, Liverpool, 20, have taken over a vehicle of 3/ tons unladen from General Wharfage and Roadways (Liverpool), Ltd. Mr. R. S. Heaton has assigned two vehicles (111 tons) to Heatorts Transport (Home Farm lMawdesleyl, Ltd.), who have in turn sold one of them (54tons) to A. Rothwell (St Helens), Ltd., Cleveland Street, Peasley Cross, St. Helens.

Messrs. J. and P. Brown, 37 Little Lane, Longridge, have taken over an articulated outfit (74 tons) from Mr. H. Gilbraith. Messrs. A. and W. Wood, 34 Stanley Street, Runcorn, have transferred seven vehicles (191 tons) to Weston Haulage Co. (A., W., and H. Wood and C. A. Platt), Weston House, Weston, Runcorn, and seven vehicles (33 tons), including an articulated outfit, and four trailers (9 tons) to Runcorn Transport Services (A., W., and IL Wood -and C. A. Platt). Another 21 vehicles (991 tons) and three trailers (6/ tons) have been assigned by Messrs. A. and W. Wood (Runcorn Transport Services) to Runcorn Transport Services (A., W., and H. Wood and C. A. Platt),

Mr. Harold Wood, Greenacre, Howey Lane, Frodsham, has sold four vehicles (121 tons) to Johnson Brothers (Runcorn), Ltd., York Street, Runcorn.

A new purchase has been made by Mr. B. Corfield, Goetre Villa, Abermule, Mont, of one vehicle (31 tons). Messrs. Wilds Motors (J. P. and J. D. "Wild), Sandiway Garage, Manchester Road, Altrincham, have been successful with another tender, this time for four vehicles (12 tons). F,lah Broadbent, Ltd., have purchased an articulated outfit of 61 tans, and P. Wardell (Haulage) Ltd., two vehicles (111 tons) and a trailer (2 tons).

YORKSHIRE A further purchase, eornprising six

vehicles, has beert made from British Road Services by T. Rodweli and Son, Ltd., Woodside Garage, Wombwell, near Barnsley. Other buyers are Mr. R. Clark (Robertson Dale Transport Co.). 117 Wellington Street, Hull (four vehicles), and T. Glassbrook and Son, Ltd_, fa Rack Blenheim Mount, Marmingliam, 'Bradford (two).

The majority of vehicles taken over from

Dutdiills (Pontefract), Ltt, Front Street, Pontefract. by L., Turtott (Haulage), Ltd., Central Garage, South Elmall (The Commercial Motor, July 23), 'have now been re-assigned to the following: Walter Fisher, Ltd.. Harborougla Hill Road, Barnsley, -one (3 tons 9 cwt.); R. Hanson and Son, Ltd., King Street, Wakefield, one (3 tons); Mr. Frank Hensby, Whitley Farm, Netherton, Wakefield, one (3 tons '1 cwt); Mr. F. Holman, Verdon House, Camblesforth, one (3 tons 2 cwL): Mr. J. W. S. Moore, Fairholme, Cawood, Selby, one (3 tons 1 cwt.): and Mr. E. Wade, Summerville Road, Stanningley, one (31 tons).

Three of eight lorries assigned to Wescol Motors, Ltd., Qtreensbury, by Wescol Construction Co., Queensbury (reported on June 11), have now been transferred to: Messrs. Joe Dean and Sons (J., W., and T. Dead), Far Syke House, Greetland, one (3 tons 6 cwt.): Mr. J. B. Woodall, Green Lane, Chile, Selby, one (3 tons 7 cwt.); and Messrs. R. L. Williamson and Sons (B. and J. Williamson), Lower Union Street, Skipton, one (3 tons 3 cwt.).

• • • WEST MIDLANDS Two articulated vehicles each have

been purchased •by Mr. W. Parkes, 95 Long Lane, Blackheath, and Clarke and Co. (Sutton Coldfield), Ltd., Gate Lane, Sutton Coldfield. Mr.-Parkes has acquired Leamington Spa unit 3011 and Clarke and Co., Birmingham, unit 2553.

A Special Traffics unit-3949, based at Stafford—consisting of one vehicle, has gone to Messrs. Pratt and Cotterill (Sandwell Transport), 227 Hallam Street, West Bromwich.

Mr. T. 2. Richardson, 100 Dudley Road

East, Oldbury, who has bought three vehicles (221 tons), has assigned one (St tons). Mr. H. G. Rowan, Meadow Farm, Aldridge Road, Streetly, one (61 tons) to

Mr. J. L. Mason, 4 Dimmocks Avenue, Coseley, Bilston, and the other to Mr. F. G. 'Hoppe, Blackpill, Swansea.

WESTERN AREA Two vehicles taken over in the southern area by Alfred Miller (Haulage), Ltd., 9-15 Crosby Road, London, S.E.1, will be operated from a depot which the company are to open in Bristol.

EAST MIDLANDS

S. W. Wreford and Sons, Ltd., 62 Euston Road, Far Cotton, Northampton, -who have been granted special A licences for five vehicles (19 tons 18 cwt.), have assigned one (5 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs J. T. and T. W. Cross F. Cross and Sons), Park Road, Hartwell.

EASTERN COUNTIES

A repeat purchase, again of a threevehicle unit (2723, based at Norwich) -has been made by Mr. L. E. Bertram, 57 Victoria Road, Diss. The vehicles have an unladen weight of 9 tons.

R. L. Drakard and Sons, Ltd., Bridge Garage, Hartest, Bury St. Edmunds, nave had their tender accepted for Special Traffics unit 3943 (Bermondsey), comprising an 8-ton articulated low-loader.

Chelmsford unit 2949, consisting of two vehicles (51 tons). has been taken over by Mr. J. C. Fulton, Maldon Tiptree. A number of assignments of recent purchases has been made by 0. G. Barnard and Sons, Ltd., Stowmarket, and B. and B. (Lowestoft), Ltd., 10 Stradbroke Road, Pakefield, Lowestoft.

Barnard's have assigned one vehicle each, both of 3 tons unladen, to Mr. IL Wright, Snape, Saxmundham, and Mr. E. G. Bones, Stratford St. Mary, Colchester. Both were in Ipswich unit 2717. The assignment—of three vehicles, including two articulated outfits—by B. and B. (Lowestoft), Ltd., concerned unit 2721 (Norwich), the purchase of which was reported last week. The lorries have gone to Ives and Smith, Ltd., Tomline Road, Ipswich.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES

Two contract-hire units, together with Bermondsey unit 3301, representing a total unladen weight of 33 tons, have been assigned by their two purchasers to Mr. R. G. Field, Gidca Park, Essex. The contract-hire units, 3005 and 3019 (both at ShoTeditc1), each -comprising one vehicle of 2 tons, were bought by Mr. H. D. Dickinson, Bruce Grove, London, N.17, and the Bermondsey link, consisting of four eight-wheelers (29 tons), by Mr. Leonard G, Winn, Basildon, 'Essex, Cleeve Hill Transport, Ltd., 98 Prestbury Road, Cheltenham, --have purchased unit 3512 (Row) and assigned it -to Mr. J. F. Roberts, 62 Wailay Hill, Brentwood, Essex. It consisted of four vehicles with a total unladen weight of 10 tons.

Special Traffics unit 3939 (Leicester), comprising an articulated 20-ton lowloading outfit (5 tons), has gone to Cattermoles Transport, Ltd., 79 Pentonvide Road, London, N.1.

Mr. F. A. Landrigan, 54 Burnthvvaite Road, Fulham, has taken over a parcels van (3 tons). The unit concerned was 3320 (Finsbury).

Beal 'Motor Transport, Ltd., Goodmayes, Ilford, have been notified that their tender for unit 2824 (Stratford) has been accepted. One vehicle and a trailer (5 tons) are involved.
