SOUTHPORTS municipal transport manager, Mr. Jackson Haggard, is anxious about the decline of traffic. It began last December and Mr. Hoggard attributes it to more plentiful supplies of consumer goods, the greater use of cars and powered cycles, and to the advance of television.

Receipts this year have dropped by about 3 per cent., or by some £8,400 a year. Mr. Haggard, in his annual report, sees little hope of improvement. Although a profit of £18,375 was made last -year, "the prospects for the future are by no means so bright as they were a year ago." he says.

Experimental work last year resulted in the highest fleet mileage per gallon of fuel (10.11) for many years. Successful use was also made of reinforced plastics for corner panels, wing valances and other vulnerable parts. The resilience of the material reduced the severity of damage and a large saving in repair costs is expected.
