II A Warrington-based businesswoman who runs a fleet of five trucks is this week celebrating winning a prestigious business award.

Janet Watmore met Chancellor of the Exchequer Kenneth Clarke at Downing Street to accept her Women Into Business award.

Watmore founded the Warrington turf company Turfland with her husband more than 30 years ago with just 1260.

It now has a turnover of more than Qm a year.

The firm runs five ERF rigid flatbeds and curtainsiders delivering turf around the country for anywhere from a small garden to Wembley Stadium and St Andrews golf courses.

"We use 6x4 ERFs because we find them so good, especially off-road," says Watmore. All the company vehicles carry forklift trucks for unloading on site.

One hundred and seventy women were in the running for the award, sponsored by Taylor Woodrow, and a panel chose the six finalists.
