4, AN OWNER-DRIVER who had a pro", hibition order placed on his truck, told the LA the vehicle was inspected every six weeks bya commercial garage.

/f he wants to continue as an operator, he now has to have his vehicle checked every four weeks, and start a flow chart and a duplicate book in which to note defects.

In OWNER-DRIVER Stephen Gardiner, who trades as G B Transport, has been warned that a further prohibition notice indicating vehicle neglect will mean the end of his 0-licence.

Gardiner appeared at disciplinary proceedings in Birmingham, before West Midland LA John Mervyn Pugh, following the imposition of a prohibition notice on his one vehicle. Gardiner told the LA that the prohibition had been imposed by a vehicle examiner while he was out of the country. The vehicle was inspected every six weeks by a commercial garage.

After Mervyn Pugh had said that three of the' defects listed had been marked 'neglect", Gardiner said two of the tyres had been defective had been put on to move the vehicle around the yard.

Mervyn Pugh said that the tyres were not the only defects listed. If Gardiner wanted to continue as an operator, he must have his vehicle inspected every four weeks. He wanted a flow chart brought into operation, showing when the vehicle was due for inspection, and the dates prebooked with the commercial garage. He also wanted Gardiner to have a duplicate book in which to note defects, as that would indicate to the vehicle examiner that he was checking his vehicle daily.

After Gardiner had agreed that he had been using the annual test to find out what was wrong with his vehicle, Mervyn Pugh pointed out that that was not the thing to do.
