Alan Wright, formerly manager of Sunderland Corporation's transport department (now part of the Tyneside Passenger Transport Authority) has been appointed to the newly created post of manager of the PTA's Sunderland and South Shields division. Mr Wright will have day to day control of about 300 buses_ He has also been appointed the PTA's associate director of engineering. George Stringer becomes manager of the Newcastle division, and associate director of industrial relations. S. P. Gage, formerly manager of the Brown Brothers Ltd specialized services branch at Coventry, has been appointed Reading district manager. He succeeds H. T. Mumme who is now Glasgow district manager. M. R. Klutentreter becomes mar ager of the specialized services branch at Coventry. He was previously assistant manager at Birmingham. B. Whittle moves to district manager. Wolverhampton. Formerly branch manager at Stoke, Mr Whittle suceeds A. G. F. Ward following the latter's appointment as area manager. Midlands, for Blue Peter Retreads Ltd — a member of the Brown Brothers & Albany Group. B. Hill, previously assistant manager at Chatham, becomes Stoke branch manager, and A. W. Berry has been promoted from motor department manager at Acton to assistant branch manager.

Kevin C. Hayward, 37. has been appointed sales manager for the automotive division of International Pinchin Johnson.

Harry Pettican, who joined Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd in 1931 and is Gillingham depot engineer, has been promoted northern area engineer: Glyn Keeling, assistant engineer and works manager. City of Oxford, becomes Maidstone's southern area engineer. Another NBC appointment is that of Barry G. Robinson, Folkestone area manager, to assistant traffic manager, East Kent Road Car Co Ltd, to succeed Roger Dixon, who joins the Central Activities Group.

John Robert Oates has been appointed traffic manager of Isle of Man Road Services Ltd, filling the vacancy caused by the retirement of A. C. Quayle. Mr Oates has been with the Road Services Company since 1942.

Roger A. Pinnington, director of the holding company of the Woodhead Group, has been elected president of the European Shock Absorber Manufacturers' Association (EuSAMA). He succeeds A. A. de Koning, joint md of Koni NV of Holland. One of the aims of EuSAMA, formed two years ago, is to standardize shock absorber dimensions in the interest of interchange.

David Hardman, 28, has been promoted Godfrey Davis national sales manager and is to introduce a new regional sales organization.

J. W. Gannicliffe has resigned from the Merseyside Chamber of Commerce and Industry after an association lasting more than 40 years. Until his retirement in 1966 Mr Gannicliffe was manager of Silver Roadways Ltd, Liverpool. He is a former chairman of the Chamber's transport committee and of its road transport section.

I. J. Wanless, 27, previously general sales manager with Scotts of Nottingham, has been appointed marketing director for Seddon and Atkinson products within the Scotts Group. Eric Nicoll becomes marketing director for ERF and foreign franchises held by the group. Since October 1972 Mr Nicoll has been managing director of W. J. Boyes & Son Ltd. Before joining the Scotts Group, Mr Nicoll was with Normands.

J. E. Bush, who joined Scotts in September 1972 from S. & P. Commercials, Grimsby, becomes sales manager. Seddon and Atkinson products.

FTA elections E. Povey (London Carriers Ltd. Croydon) has been elected chairman of the Surrey and S. Middlesex area of the London and Home Counties division of the Freight Transport Association. S. D. Barrett (Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd, Guildford), G. D. Gates (Unigate Ltd, Sutton) and A. G. Evans (E. J. Baker Motors Ltd, Dorking) are vicechairmen.

Yorkshire division: Leeds and West Riding area chairman P. Aspinall (BBA Group Ltd, Cleckheaton); vice-chairmen T. R. Shaw (Central Auction Mart Ltd, Leeds) and J. D. Brown (Tilling Construction Co Ltd, Otiey).

Sheffield and S. Yorkshire chairman G. W. Smith (The Cementation Co Ltd, Doncaster); vice-chairmen W. Lynn (Thos Wragg and Sons (Sheffield) Ltd, Sheffield), F. M.
