• The vehicle engineering division of the DoE has begun operating a non compulsory system of EEC Type Approval for granting approvals to vehicle manufacturers who request and qualify for them.
In March 1970 the Council for the EEC issued a directive laying down the basic procedures for a type approval scheme for vehicles and components and I 1 subsidiary directives have been issued since. The directives cover the same as existing national regulations.
