MR. FRANK PICK, the present Vicechairman of the London Passenger Transport Boarct is resigning from his office on May 18. Born at Spalding in 1878, and educated at St. Peter's School, York, he qualified with honours as a solicitor. In 1902, he joined the North Eastern Railway Company under Sir George Gibb, removing to London with him in 1906, when Sir George took over the management of the Metropolitan District and London Electric Railways. Upon the latter's retirement in 1907, Mr. Pick was transferred to the staff of Mr. A. H. Stanley (now Lord Ashfield). He became traffic development offizer in 1909 and commercial manager in 1912, in these capacities building up the system of bus routes* and the advertising department. After war work in connection with coal rationing, he•went to America in 1919 to study traffic problem's, and in 1921 was appointed joint assistant managi.ag director of the companies in the Underground group, assuming full administrative control under Lord Ashfield in 1924. His appointment as managing director dated from March, 1928, and he became vice-chairman of the Board in 1833. Mr., Pick was a foundation member of the Institute of Transport and was President for 1932. He was also a member of many important Committees and Commissions connected with traffic, Crown lands and the police.

Mn. MICHAEL DEWAR, chairman of British Timken. Ltd., the Birmingham manufacturer of ball, roller and tapered roller bearings, and Mn. F. J. PASCOE, financial director of British. Timken, Ltd., have been elected to the board of Fischer Bearings Co., Ltd., of Wolverhampton.

MR. A. L. BAGLEY, transport manager of Littlewood's Mail Order Stores, has been re-elected chairman and Mr. J. W. 'WRIGHT, director of Evans Sons, Leacher and Webb. Ltd., vice-chairman of the Liverpool branch of the Industrial Transport Association. Mr. Wright was also nominated as a vice-president for the National Council of I.T.A.

MR. E. W. SPALDING, A.M.I.Mech.E., has been appointed general sales manager of Ruston and Hornsby, Ltd., of Lincoln. He was apprenticed to the company when it was known as Ruston Proctor and Co., Ltd., from 1897 to 1903. After a year's tuition at the Municipal School of Technology, Manchester, he rejoined the concern in 1904, and from 1905 onwards he visited many parts of the world on the company's behalf. After the 19141918 war, he travelled abroad again until 1932, when he was appointed manager of the overseas sales department, an appointment which he has held until his recent promotion.

MR. J. R. IRELAND is the holder of the Kathleen Drogheda Challenge Trophy for 1940 for the highest standard of general efficiency amongst students of the Automobile Engineering Training College. He entered the college on a scholarship awarded by the president, Viscount Wakefield. He obtained the national certificate in mechanical engineering, with three distinctions, and was awarded a Whitworth prize. He also passed the examination of the Institute of the Motor Trade. He is now employed on experimental and repair work at Dennis Brothers, Ltd., Guildford.
