THE Cairo Transport Authority, which already uses over 1,000 Magirus-Deutz E 113 Buses on the 1,600km network of routes, is this month taking delivery of the first of 270 new vehicles which are being built in Egypt using German-made running units and compo nents. Incorporating Magirus-Deutz air-cooled engines, the new NASR 811 design is the result of a joint programme between Egyptian engineers from the Wadi Hof plant of NASCO and The two-door bodywork has frontal _styling, with deep kerb sighting windows, very similar to that used on Italian-built IVECO buses. Sliding side windows are fitted for maximum ventilation, and there are four steps at entrance and exit doors. Overall length is 11.46m and the rear-mounted power unit develops 147kW.

In addition to the Cairo order, Alexandria is also interested in buses of this type and will shortly be receiving a demonstration vehicle.
