AWIDE range of British chassis is displayed at the Copenhagen Commercial Motor Show, which opened last Friday and closes on September 14. A representative of "The Commercial Motor reports that it is an international event, with 153 exhibits, of which Britain has contributed 55, Germany 48, U.S.A. 15, France and Sweden 12 each, Italy five, and Czechoslovakia, Denmark and Holland, two each.

British manufacturers are represented on 24 stands and the models range foam a Pashley three-wheeler to largecapacity buses based on A.E.C„ Guy and Leyland underfloor-engined chassis. The A.E.C. passenger range is illustrated by two Regal Mark III models, one having a 7.58-litre oil engine, and by an underfloor-engined chassis. Albion Motors, Lt-J., is represented by a Chieftain long-wheelbase drop-sided lorry, and an Atkinson four-wheeled tractor with a Gardner 6LW engine is

The Austin 1-ton four-wheel-drive chas-sis, described on page 173, made its first public appearance at Copenhagen before being shown in London, and it occupies a stand with five other models from Longbridge, ranging from the A40 van to 5-tonners and a 31-seater bus chassis.

According to the Danish representatives, the Bedford SR-type passenger chassis shown is available for a 10f-m. (34-ft. 6-in.) body. The Bedford models displayed include the new 10-12-cwt. forward-control delivery van and longwheelbase load carriers of up to 7 tons capacity.

A Bradford 10-cwt. van shares a stand with a Guy Arab underfloor-engined bus with a locally built body for 36 seated and 28 standing passengers.

Seven Commer chassis occupy one of the largest stands in the centre of the main half, the models comprising the 8-ewt. van, the Superpoise range, underfloor-engined 7-tonners and an Avenger bus. A Dennis Pax 6-tonner is shown on an adjoining stand, together with a Dodge 2-tonner, 5-tonner and bus chassis.

British, American and German Kew-built be Soto and Fargo models, including a Perkins-engined 5-tonner, are shown alongside American contemporaries. Fordson vans and Thames chassis are exhibited in company with Taunus vans, and a 2-tonner and two bus chassis built in Germany, and a 4-tonner from America.

The latest Jen-Tug with the Austin A40 engine‘and four-speed gearbox is seen alongside a Pashley 6-cwt. threewheeler, whilst other British models include the Karrier Bantam 2-tonner, Land-Rover, Scammell Scarab, Standard Vanguard and Singer. The Singer has a 12-cwt. van body fitted to a 1500chassis by Bohnstedt Petersen, the Danish agent.

A Leyland Royal Tiger chassis with a 34-ft. coach body for 45 seated passengers, built by Grum Petersen and weighing 8+ tons complete, is the centrepiece of the Exhibition. It is equipped with Michelin Metallic C.20 tyres. Also shown with this coach is the Leyland Comet 90 long-wheelbase chassis.

There are four Morris-Commercials, ranging from the 30-cwt. four-cylinder chassis to the 5-ton normal-control models with petrol and oil engines. Seddon is showing the 3-ton oil-engined chassis and a 6-tonner with two-speed axle, and a passenger chassis with the engine conventionally mounted at the front. The Thornyeroft Sturdy Star and Trident complete the British exhibits.

Strong German Competition Germany provides the strongest source of competition and is particularly well represented in the heavy-passengerchassis field and light-van class. Mercedes Benz, with eight chassis, occupies the largest stand for medium and heavy passenger chassis, all of which have the engine at the front. The company also has a complete range of oil-enginecl lorries and a fire-engine.

Denmark is represented by a Triangel chassis for a 37-seat coach body or a bus for 65 passengers. It is powered by • an 8.6-litre oil engine developing 130 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. Michelin Metallic C.20 tyres are fitted. This company also builds a 5-ton oilengined chassis, which is shown with a six-cylindered oil engine with an output of 90 .b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. Both are direct-injection units.
