Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

that the heavy truck market had a "spectacular" September, with sales figures up by almost 28% compared with the same month last year.

Most of the growth was at the top end of the market, with 3,090 tractive units registered in September.

Part of the increase was attributed to changes in the reduced pollution certificate (RPC) scheme (CM 5-11 October). SMMT Chief Executive Christopher Macgowan says: 'The uncertainty over the RPC scheme caused many operators to reg ister their new trucks early."

New truck sales as a whole have increased by 8.2% for the first nine months of the year, with Scania and Renault the biggest success storiesScania's sales are up by 45% so far this year. MAN. Daf and Foden have also enjoyed increased sales.

Light commercial vehicles fared less well, though the heavy van sector (2.6-3.5 tonnes GVW) has grown.

The new Transit seems to have arrested the slide in Ford's van sales, though smaller firms like Peugeot and Citroen are gaining more market share— and LDV's orders are tip by 9.5% to more than 11,000 this year.
