ARANGE of medium-duty multi-wheel-drive vehicles has been introduced by Douglas Equipment, Ltd., Cheltenham. It comprises a 4 x 4 (known as the D.M.4), a 6 x 4 (D.M.64) and a 6 X 4 (D.M.6). Perkins R.6 104 b.h.p. oil engines power all the new vehicles. A fourth version, the D.M.42, is also available; this is a fourwheeler with rear-axle drive only.

The D.M.4 is rated for a 5-6-ton payload with 9.00-20-in. (12-ply) cross-country tyres, It has a wheelbase of 11 ft. -6 in., the overall width over the rear wheels is 7 ft. 4 in., and the minimum ground clearance under the axle pots is 9+ in.

An 8-10-ton payload is specified for the D.M.6, which has a 15-ft, wheelbase. Four-speed gearboxes are used in this and the D.M.64, in conjunction with two-speed auxiliary units in each case. With a 10-ton payload the D.M.6 is claimed to be able to negotiate a I in 2.25 incline.

Vehicles in this range are already operating in Borneo, Indonesia, Pakistan. Turkey, Spain and Venezuela.
