FOUR HAULIERS in the Republic of Ireland have been told to give up their 0-licences because they have received serious criminal convictions in the past five years.
The four, who have not yet been named, are the first to have licences revoked after new regulations were introduced in August making it clear that serious criminal convictions are not compatible with holding an 0-licence.
Transport minister Noel Dempsey introduced the rule following the revelation that a convicted drug dealer had been issued with an 0-licence.
Previously, it had been argued in Ireland that an 0-licence could not be taken away because everybody has a right to work and earn a living.
