Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Showstopper

VHEN the Scottish Motor Trade Association opens the doors at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, oday it will herald the 54th and final Scottish Motor Show at that venue.

The Scottish Show has always had the aura of a family affair. Dealers rather than nanufacturers are the exhibitors — well, ostensibly. However, there is more than a ouch of "shamateurism" to the concept.

The manufacturers may not have been credited with putting on the show but vithout their expertise and total backing it would not have happened.

Indeed, it is because of the total involvement of the manufacturers that the show as long since outgrown Kelvin Hall. Satellite shows have developed. There are at aast four bus and coach exhibitions taking place in other parts of Strathclyde next veek.

It should not go unrecorded that SMTA has developed the show during a period of inparalleled recession and in an unemployment black spot.

When the doors close next Saturday it will undoubtedly be a boisterous farewell to elvin Hall. It will also herald a new concept in Scottish shows.

The new exhibition centre will provide scope for more ambitious exhibits. In iddition, organisations in the industry will be able to sponsor conferences to coincide vith the show.

So while we look back with nostalgia at the part Kelvin Hall as played in the development of road transport in icotland, we welcome the change planned for 1985. t is long overdue.
