The sleeper-cabbed Freighter 16.15 is Leyland's response to increasing demand for sleeper cab 16-tonners. Hitherto only day cabs have been available on the 16.15 which was the first of the Freighter range to be launched, at the Scottish Show two years ago.

The 16.15 is available with either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged versions of the Leyland 400 Series engine, with outputs of 100kW and 115kW (135 and 154bhp) respectively and is currently the market leader in the UK.

Another new vehicle on the Leyland Stand is the Roadtrain 20.32. This three-axle twin steer tractive unit is designed for use with two or three axle semitrailers at 38 tonnes gcw and has conventional suspension on all axles.

The use of a simple steel suspension helps to keep the kerb weight to a very competitive 7.63 tonnes complete with fifth wheel ramps, full fuel tank, steel wheels and ancilliaries. A short wheelbase, of 3.45m (1 ift 4in), allows the 20.32 to be coupled to the majority of existing semitrailers within 15.5m (50ft 10in) overall length.

Other Leyland vehicles on show include a Terrier, Cruiser 16.23, and Roadtrain 16.25. The Terrier 738, a 2.87m (9ft 5in) wheelbase tipper, is one of the largest Leyland trucks that can be driven on a car licence, while the Cruiser 16.23 is a 28 tonne tractor.

A Roadtrain 16.25 tractive unit equipped with a Rolls-Royce Eagle 265 engine is fitted with a Multipart roof fairing and air dam.
