Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

KELVIN HALL'S limited amount of exhibition space has caused Volkswagen to show only two of its wide range of commercial vehicles on VAG's car stand.

Two models are on show, an LT 31 high roof van and a diesel engined Transporter van.

Volkswagen introduced major design changes to its LT range earlier in the year, with six cylinder petrol and diesel engines and a new five tonnes gvw model. The new 2.4-litre six-cylinder petrol engine develops 66kW (90bhp) at 4,500rpm and maximum torque at 165Nm (122Ibft) at 2,800rpm. It has a twin choke, down-draught carburettor, automatic choke, and electrically heated elements to aid starting in cold weather.

TOYOTA has a full line-up of its light commercial range starting with the Hi-Lux 4x2 which claims a long loadbed and the biggest payload in its class.

In 4x4 form it provides an offroad capability to satisfy the needs of farmers, agricultural contractors and civil engineers.

The Hi-Ace Panel van is available with a petrol engine and four-speed gearbox or diesel en gine and five-speed gearbox Chassis cab and pick-up variants are also available, while seating for 12 persons is provided in the Hi-Ace Crewbus.

For off-road performance, the Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a gutsy four-litre engine driving all four wheels. The Land Cruiser has 10 speeds suited to on/off road applications and provides seating for five. Unusual for a vehicle of this size are its 24-volt electrics.

AMONG the five commercial vehicles on the Mercedes-Benz grouped dealer stands is the

new 2025S tandem-steer tractive unit. The 2025S is Mercedes' latest addition to its UK heavy vehicle range, and uses the same driveline as the 1625S twoaxled tractive unit. Conventional leaf spring suspension is usual on front and drive axles. Kerb weight is an attractive 7.33 tonnes.

Air bellow suspension is fitted to the second steer axle assisted by two parabolic springs which also serve to locate it.

The 2025 has a 3.9m (12ft 9.5in) outer axle spread, permitting a gvw of 22.36 tonnes. The tyres are 12R-22.5. Fitted as stan dard, they allow the front axle to be plated at 6.61 tonnes.

The recommended fifth wheel position, some 815mm (32in) in front of the drive axle, caters for imposed kingpin loadings of up to 14.71 tonnes, A single bunk M sleeper cab is available on all Mercedes models down to the 16-ton rigid. Mercedes-Benz is showing two M-cabbed XLE 1617 I model powered by a tu charged six cylinder engine veloping 125kW (168bhp).
