• For the second time in three years a demand for the banning of heavy lorries through Warwick town centre has been refused. Warwick Borough Council were seeking the ban on the grounds that conditions had changed since the first request, but the County Council's road committee replied that the bypass had reduced heavy traffic in the town centre by 70 per cent and a ban would have little benefit; the chief constable had reported that such a ban would be extremely difficult to enforce.
