Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Standing Advisory Committee on

Dangerous Substances was concentrating first on the control of the carriage by road of some 70 inflammable liquids, under the heading of packaging, loading and labelling, and the operation and construction of vehicles.

Stating this in the Commons last week. Mr. George Thomas, Under Secretary at the Home Office. added that his department had prepared certain proposals and was engaged in preparing others for consideration by the technical sub-committee to which the detailed work would fall.

Later he dealt with a suggestion that all vehicles carrying dangerous substances

should display proper instructions t( suggest the required form of action it the case of an accident.

This suggestion came from Mr. Tec Leadbitter (Labour, Hartlepools) whc asked what the Government was doim to ensure that all vehicles carryim inflammable, toxic and explosivt chelnicals were clearly marked.

After reviewing the regulations whicl controlled .the carriage of many sub stances, Mr. Thomas said that the question of extending these controls anc applying them to a wide range of othei substances was being examined by tilt Standing Advisory Committee.
