Stand .100---,latnes Bowen and Sons Ltd., • Edinburgh.

OF the three chassis on this stand one is new and therefore being shown publicly for the first time, whilst the others are standard models which have been in production for the past year. There is also an important vehicle on the demonStration park, this being a prototype tractive unit powered by the new Perkins V8.7510 engine. Making its debut ar the ShoW is the new version of the ERFLV cab announced last week.

ill 4 The new model is the 68GX eightwheeler designed for operation at 26 tons gross and which has a wheelbase of 20 ft.

9 in. A 27 ft-long platform body is to be fitted to the chassis, but as shown, the weight of the chassis and cab is 7 tons 3 cwt., giving a body and payload allowance Of 18 tons 17 cwt. ERF is using the forward front axle position and the 2LV Cab with entry over the front wheels to obtain the maximum axle spread within the overall length of 30 ft. 4 in. A Gardner 6LX engine and David Brown 557 gearbox are used and the rear bogie has Kirkstall. spiral-bevel/spur double drive rear axles with a lockable third differential. At the rear there is four spring balance-beam suspension. The full air brakes are on dual circuits and the rear brake actuators are doublediaphragm chambers.

The other two exhibits are fourwheelers. There is a 64GX tractive-unit for 30 tons g.t.w. with a wheelbase of 9 ft. 6 in. The engine is a Gardner 61X, the gearbox a five-speed direct-drive unit and the rear axle an Eaton two-speed.

The second four-wheeler is a 54G rigid with a wheelbase of 17 ft. 9 in. to carry a 24 ft. body. This chassis is plated for 16 tons gross and has a Gardner 51W engine driving through an ENV 542 five speed synchromesh gearbox to an Eaton two-speed axle. As on the tractive unit, double-diaphragm chambers are used for the emergency braking but only at the rear axle; the single-pull handbrake is power assisted.

The prOtotype tractive unit on the demonstration park is not going to be there for the whole period but will be changed from time to time with ir 64Cu180 tractive unit and semi-trailer loaded to 30 tons g.t.w. This has a Cummins NHE 180 engine and a Kirkstall spiral-bevel rear axle. The V8-engined prototype is designated the 84PV and has a 9 ft. 6 in. wheelbase. The engine drives through a 15 in. clutch to a five-speed constant-mesh gearbox and the rear axle is an Eaton 18802 twospeed unit.
