Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

this week. Manufactured by Jobson and Beckwith Ltd., the London pump engineers, it was designed by Mr. Michael Orr. Thc Univane, as it is called, comprises two rotating and • reciprocating vanes which move at slow speed within an unusually shaped, high-grade. cast-iron cylinder carried in an alloy casing. A relief-valve is built into the casing—this is completely positive in action, 'allowing no seepage of liquid helove the pre-set operating pressure. An unusual aspect of the unit is that it is designed to tiperate at maximum capacity at engine idling speed, ensuring minimum wear and tear on the pump and considerable savings in fuel costs, It is claimed that turning at only 550 r.p.m. the pump will handle 200 e.o.m. when operating against a pressure of 110 psi.

The unit has a total weight of 'only 70 lb. and has, it is claimed, undergone extensive testing for more than 12 months. During this time it has been run against closed valves, at excessive speeds, and dry. The only failure recorded was a consistent working loose of the relief-valve -cover, but this problem has been successfully overcome.
