Extra powder tankers and flats to carry bagged cement will be needed if the plan to increase traffic by 100,000 tonnes this year is approved later this month.
Blue Circle says subcontractors would benefit as they already support its own plantbased fleet of eight vehicles. But the company could face apposition from parish councils concerned at the environmental impact of lorries.
A Peak Park spokesman says the Blue Circle plant at Hope has been restricted to moving 577,000 tonnes by road since production capacity was increased in 1970. Approval will allow an increase to 587,000 tonnes until the end of the year.
