• A Withington, Manchester, lorry driver was fined a total of £300 at Heywood, Lanes, magistrates' court last week after pleading guilty to two offences of obtaining money from Sir Lindsay Parkinson Ltd, a large construction company, by presenting false documents.
It was stated that the driver, Vincent James Donaghy, aged 25, who was contracted to transport rock-fill from a Lancashire quarry to a site on the M62 near Heywood, weighed a load at a weighbridge close to the site and obtained a load ticket for it. However, instead of delivering the load he parked his vehicle for a short time and then returned to have the same load weighed a second time.
He admitted obtaining amounts of £10.90 and £10.53 by falsifying documents and asked for a further 11 offences of obtaining money by deception from the firm, and eight cases of attempting to obtain cash by deception to be taken into consideration.
