DRIVING A 44-tonne artic with an expired licence cost Lockerbie owner-driver Charles Marshall £723 in fines and costs.
He pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and insurance before the Welsh pool magistrates.
Prosecuting for VOSA, Andrea Bennett said that last July Marshall's 44-tonne Scania was stopped in a roadside check on the A483 at Welshpool, Powys. When Marshall produced his driving licence it became apparent that he was not entitled to drive the vehicle. A check with the DVLA database confirmed that Marshall did not have the required Class C+E entitlement.
He confirmed he was the registered keeper of the vehicle and that it was being used for his business.
When asked why he was driving the artic without the correct licence, he replied that he had not realised it had expired. He had thought Swansea would contact him regarding its expiry and for a new medical.
The magistrates lined Marshall £500 with £223 costs.
