• Hauliers should prepare for a "fundamental review of transport policy" after Labour announced it will launch an integrated transport policy.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott says the Government will review key areas of transport and its impact on the environment and the economy.
Labour is committed to review the roads programme.
It has also pledged to improve public transport and to take action so that the air is "fit to breathe".
Prescott wants to combine "social and environmental improvements, while promoting economic growth and regional competitiveness".
The review will include wide consultation so that "those with an interest in transport have the chance to give us their views and, wherever possible, become involved in the development of policy".
