III Dyfed police have warned local hauliers to clean up their act following a spot-check which uncovered an alarmingly high level of offences.

Police officers, working alongside representatives of the Department of Transport and Vehicle Inspectorate, inspected 68 trucks at Llanwrda on the A40 between Carmarthen and Llandovery—and discovered more than 60 offences. They included 40 offences related to tachograph charts and other documents, 22 mechanical defects and six cases of overloading.

A spokesman for Dyfed police force says prosecutions are likely.

The check, which took place between 08:00-13:00hrs on 2 June, was a local initiative by the force's eastern traffic division based at Ammanford.
