Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE service between Newark and Cambridge provided by Thomas Tours Ltd. would not suffer if a jointlyoperated express service between Rotherham and Southend were allowed to pick up passengers in Mansfield, the East Midland Traffic Commissioners decided at Nottingham on Wednesday.

Representatives of East Midland Motor Services Ltd., Chesterfield, and Sheffield United Tours Ltd., Sheffield, said they could take people from Mansfield to Cambridge on their route to Southend, cutting out a change of buses in Newark.

This change, from the stage service from Mansfield to the Thomas Tours service, involved an 11-minute walk through Newark in the early morning when there was only 12 minutes between buses. The joint operators were granted a variation of their licence to pick up in Mansfield. They were also given permission for their express service from Rotherham to Clacton to pick up at New 011erton, Notts.

Mr. Sid Thomas, of Thomas Tours, objected because he claimed he would lose the custom of passengers who might otherwise have travelled from New 011erton to Newark.

Refusal; An application for 14 vehicles on A licence by Robert Walker (Haulage) Ltd. was refused at Manchester on Wednesday by the North Western deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. G. Newman. Mr. Newman granted Walker's application for a renewal of the existing licence.
