Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Road Haulage Association should.

Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, suggested at Penrith last week, circulate a notice drawing the attention of licence applicants to the courtesies to be followed in notifying objectors of withdrawals.

He criticized Messrs. Crosthwaite and Thompson, Penrith, who had sought an A-licence variation, because their withdrawal had not been notified to him or the objectors, the British Transport Commission. Had he the power to award costs he would have used it, he said.

Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw, who was to have represented the firm, stated that he had received a message the previous afternoon about the withdrawal. This was confirmed by the R.H.A., who added that the clerk to the Authority had been notified.

Mr. Hanlon denied having received a letter, and Mr. F. J. McHugh, for the objectors, also said that he had not been told.

Mr. R. Thompson, a representative of the firm, was called to court and explained that he had sent a notice to the Authority at Newcastle upon Tyne about a week before and thought that this was all he was required to do. He apologized for any inconvenience caused.

In making his suggestion, Mr. Hanlon commented that he was sure that the Association were doing their best.

NIGERIAN BEDFORD ASSEMBLY

AN assembly plant to produce eight Bedford vehicles a day has been opened by the United Africa Co. of Nigeria, Ltd., at Apapa, Nigeria. An inaugural ceremony was attended by the Nigerian Minister of Commerce last week.

Bedford vehicles were previously imported complete into the country. Present work is limited to assembling the models most in demand, but the full Bedford range could be dealt with in the plant.

NEW MOULDED BRAKE FACINGS

ANEW series of brake facings, specially intended for medium-weight and heavy commercial vehicles, has been introduced by Ferodo, Ltd., and will be known as Grade AM. The material is moulded, and is stated to be universal in application and economical in manufacture.

As it is being placed on the market in a limited range of commercial sizes, Ferodo are passing on in the form of reduced prices the advantages of a measure of standardization.

BACKWARD AND DOWNWARD nRIVERS who violate instructions about reversing are to be down-rated to labourers, with corresponding diminution of pay, Rotherham Rural District Council have decided.
