Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Glasgow. A record traffic revenue of £2,980,069—an increase of £92,354 over the previous year's figure—was earned in the year ended May 31. The largest increase in revenue was provided by the buses, the figure of £704,608 being £60,198 higher than last year. The number of bus passengers rose by 10,344,382 to 89,306,4n5. The number of passengers carried by the combined motorbus, tram and subway systems increased by 20,560,0'22 to 583,586,433. The mileage also increased, the figure of 52,449069 being 2,652,994 higher than in the previous year.

South Shields. Last year's net profit totalled £7,234. compared with £4,754 a year earlier. The buses provided a profit of £3,066 and the trams' £4,168. For some years past, deficits have been incurred.

Luton. Although the gross profit was £16,283, a net deficit of £81 was shown in the final accounts. The working expenses rose by £9,341 to £57,253; the revenue, however, rose by £10,120. Extraordinary expenditure during the current year was forecast at a recent meeting.

Aberdeen. The municipal transport system carried snore passengers and earned a greater revenue than in the previous year. The number of passengers rose by 3,634,977 to 62,798,967, whilst the receipts, at 4291,870, were higher bg £18,950. Colchester. The net deficit of £850 in 193439 was inereased to £1,270 last year, although the gross profit amounted to £3,997.

Coventry. A good year was experienced, receipts rising by £28,332 to 2273,176, against which had to be set an increase in working expenses by £16,723 to 1196,346. The gross profit was higher by £11,609 than in the previous year the figure for the past 12 months being R76,830. The miles run numbered 4,428,874 (an increase of 4-62,202) and the passengers carried 36,972,524 (an increase of 4,127,276). During the year, four new buses were bought out of revenue, whilst 15 further vehicles are on order.

Wolverhampton. The trolleybue account showed a gross profit of £85,605, and the motorbus account 49,763. The net profit on the combined systems totalled £21,523. Of this sum, £5,000 has been allocated to the aid of the rates, the remainder being transferred to the reserve fund. A record number of passengers (47,393,138) was carried. Lincoln. Capital charges reduced the gross profit of £5,141 to a net deficit of £1,402, against a net profit of 4146 in the previous year. Revenue amounted to £50,553 (£3,522 more than a year earlier), but working exnenses increased by 45,330 to £45,392. Passengers carried numbered 7,357,373. compared' with 6,915,914 in 1934-35.
