A Product of the Eagle Concern. A New Model with a Moving Barrier for Compressing die Refuse. Vacuum-operated Covers a Novel Feature

ACCOMPANYING illustrations show • a new type of refuse collector now being marketed, by the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., Warwick; it is known as the Pactum model. The body is equipped with an hydraulic ram which compresses the refuse, enabling, it is claimed, a 50 per cent. greater load to be carried than with a normal body.

Of steel construction, the body frame is made up of rolled-steel channels with cross-members electrically welded to them. The floor plates and side panels have a thickness of 5-32 in. and in. respectively.

The compressing mechanism comprises a single hydraulic ram situated at the top of the body, at the front, and there is attached to it a compression plate running on steel guides. Beneath the compression plate is the loading grid which consists of rolled-steel angle sections reinforced with steel gusset plates. The ram is operated by a valve in the control box within the driver's cab.

Another feature of the vehicle is the use of vacuum-operated aluminium B42 covets. Two covers are provided on each side of the body, the rear ones being intended for primary loading only, main loading taking place through the front covers. The long operating levers are spring loaded and are quite light in action. When open, • the lever is held in position by the loader, who stands between the lever and the vehicle; when he withdraws, the lever returns to the body side and the cover is automatically closed. If desired, hand-operated or foot-operated aluminium covers can be supplied in place of the Vacuum type.

" A single-ram hydraulic tipping gear is provided, and a tipping angle of approximately 45 degrees is obtained.

The new collector body is available in three capacities of 7 cubic yds., 10 cubic yds. and 13 cubic yds.
