the general working conditions of employees of A and B licence holders in the Yorkshire Traffic Area was made in one direction at a meeting of the Yorkshire Conciliation Board, in Leeds, last week. Agreement was reached concerning the application of the guaranteed 48-hour week. This agreement, it is understood, provides for some latitude to be permitted occasionally in exceptional circumstances.

The Board left over for further consideration the annual week's holiday with pay and the " higher-rating " clause. Final grading for wages purposes also remains to be considered in the light of the Yorkshire wages award made by Sir Richard Redmayne, chairman of the National Board, which is due to come into operation in October next.

. Sir Richard's award, which was made because neither the Yorkshire Board nor the National Board's appeals committee could reach agreement on Yorkshire wages, provides for the operation of Grades 1, 2 and 3 in various parts of the area, but there is a part where it is left to the local Board to decide the exact line of demarcation between Grade 1 and Grade 2 zones.

Mr. J. E. Corrin, the employees' secretary of the National Board, attended last week's meeting of the Yorkshire Board.
