Regarding your recent stories on the Gwent recovery opera. tor which has been accused ol overcharging, I wish Michae Eagles the best of luck and I lope he keeps fighting the in. louse police inquiry.

This kind of thing is happenng all over the country—it is ust a whitewash and no one yts any answers.

We receive reports which suggest that both car drivers and commercial vehicle operators are being ripped off all the time.

The advice I would give to any operator is that when they have a vehicle in trouble and the police say they will arrange the recovery, ask the following questions: • Flow far does the recovery firm have to travel (as this can be 30-35 miles)?

• What are the recovery rates per hour?

• What type of equipment are they supplying?

The reason I say this is that there may be a garage which is not on the recovery scheme but with the right type of equipment within a few miles of the scene. The police side-step these people. Numerous complaints have beer made by haulage contractors and insurance companies to the police about overcharging but they say it is not their problem.

This is causing concern as people will think all recovery operators are rip-off merchants. If anyone thinks they have been ripped off, let us have a copy of the invoice as we are fighting to get a fair rate for the job.
