Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ton-payload artic compare with one of 22-ton payload for the mileage ranges of 800, 1,000 and 1,200 miles a week? And how do the ton-mile figures compare?

A The following are the 10 items of

operating costs for the 16-tonner, with those for the 22-tonner shown in brackets: Standing costs per week—licences 153s fid (204s 3d), wages 317s 3d (330s 6d), rent and rates 41s 3d (44s 9c1), insurance 113s 9d (160s 9d), interest 150s 6d (265s 0d). total 776s 3d (1,005s 3d): Running Costs in pence per mile—Fuel 7.31d (8.22d). lubricants 0.33d (0.34d), tyres 3.32d (4.54d), maintenance 4.33d. (4.91d), depreciation 3.19d (4.26d); total 18.48d (22.27d).

The addition of standing and running costs gives the following operating costs per mile at the varying average weekly mileages800 miles 30.12d (37.35d), 1,000 miles 27.30 (34.33d) and 1,200 miles 26.24d (32.32d).

It is significant that where the larger vehicle has been introduced to cope with an increasing traffic flow some under-loading of the larger vehicle, in the initial stages at least, would be possible as the cost per ton when only loaded to 20 tons would be less than the corresponding figure for a 16-tonner when fully loaded.
