Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• To help drivers doubtful whether their vehicles comply with the new noise regulations which came into force on July 1 the Ministry of Transport is arranging a series of advisory checks on off-the-road sites at which vehicles can be tested for noise without fear of infringing the regulations.

A list of checkpoints follows:—

EASTERN TRAFFIC AREA Barley Goods Yard, July 17 and 31: Wood ley Aerodrome, Reading, July 24. All 2-4 pm.

NORTHERN Fenham Barracks, Newcastle, July 15, 10 am to 12 noon, and July 30, 2-4 pm; Durham Hill Camp. Carlisle, July 17 and 31, 2-4 pm: Thornaby Old Airfield, Stockton-on-Tees, July 22 and 24.2-4 pm.

EAST MIDLAND Watnall, Note., HGV testing station, July 17, 9.30 am to 3.30 pm; Grimsby, Lincs., HGV testing station, July 18, 10.30 am to 3.30 pm; Leicester HGV testing station, August 1.9.30 am to 3.30 pm.

WEST MIDLAND Prees Heath Aerodrome. Whitchorch. Salop, July 12, 10, am to 4 pm lif wet same time July 171. .
