Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Our readers will be informed by the Editor on any points connected with the construction or use of commercial motors. Where a direct reply is desired, a stamped addressed envelope should be enelosed : if a request for privacy is not specially made, any query and answer may be published: Some replies; owing to pressure on our space, are held several weeks. Numerous requests reach MO for lists of motorcab and commercial-vehicle owners ; these we never supply. Our advertise

ment columns are open to those who desire to make announcements to owners for the purposes of trade,

'With Intent to Improve."

[4287] (Patentee.}----Only selected patents are published by us. The selection is made at the Patent Office, by a member of our staff, each week.

Where to Buy British Chassis.

[4288] (North Wales).—We fear we cannot give you the name of any British maker who is delivering generally to buyers. British makers `axe delivering only to Government orders, or releases, although the resources of their factories are not in all cases wholly absorbed on the output of commercial-motor vehicles.

How Can They Get Increased m.p.g.?

[4289] (Merchants).—You should now certainly get about nine miles to the gallon from the vehicle which you mention. We are under the'impression that you must be giving the carburetter too little air. If that does not help you, it is possible that the magneto is set to fire too late, or that. the driver is retarding it too much: Transferring a Petrol Licence.

[4290] (Grocers).—You. will, in our °Pinion, be exposing yourselves to serious liabilities if you pass on a full-duty petrol licence, unless it is a bona-fide transaction in eonjunction with the sale.of the car in respect of supplies for which-the said licence was issued. In that event, the simplest course is for the buyer to take over the licence, purchasing the supplies which it authorizes as though he were doing it as agent for the original holder.

Fitting a Gas-bag to a Char-a-bancs.

[4291] (East Molesey).—We are unaware that there 'is any eccasion for a plan in connection with the fitting of a. gas holder to.a, char-a-banes. You merely need to.specify that the dimensions of the gas-holder shall not. exceed the canopy space and to improvise a light cradle to which to fasten the holding-down tabs on the bag. The illustrations which we have published will probably be a sufficient guide to you, if you look at them closely.

How Can He Repair Aluminium Radiator Headers?

[4292] (Repair Depot.)—There is really no method of painting the inside'of the top andibottom headers of an aluminium radiator which can be recommended. A temporary repair can be effected if the top and bottom box-spaces are lined with brass, or with lead sheet on steel. The best remedy is to have new top and bottom headers of aluminium, but this of course is expensive. We think that the best course might be to entrust. the repair to an experienced firm such as Messrs. Randall, of Paddington Green, W.

Wants to Use Compressed Coal-gas.

[4293] (St. Albans).—It is impossible to proceed with the use of compression of coal-gas at the present time, as rigid steel containers are not available. We recommend you to apply to the Steel Barrel Co., Ltd., Uxbridge, Middlesex, for such information' as they can give you, subject to delivery, and to the British Oxygen Co., Ltd., of Elverton Street. S.W., in similar vein. Flexible gas-holders are supplied by Andrew W. Barton Bros., of Beeston, Notts, to hold gas at atmospheric pressure, and these are replenished from any ordinary town supply.

Touring by Motorcar Run on Coal-gas.

[4296] (Reading). —You can buy small gas-holders and-the necessary, fittings from Andrew W. Barton, Bros., of Beeston, Notts. You should give them the area of the topiof your landaulet, to which you can secure the flexible gas-holder. Supposing that you had an area available 8 ft. in length by 5 ft. in width, you could then have a circular holder capable of containing about 160 cubic ft. of gas, which is enough to drive a 12-15 h.p. Panhard about 14 miles. You would have to refill each 12 miles for safety. The use of coal-gas does not lend itself to long-distance touring, for private purposes, unless previous arrangements, are made for refilling, but it is extremely, useful for station work, shopping, etc. As soon as the gas companies come into line and make refilling arrangements general, you should be able to tour by motorcar, and to take up further gas supplies almost as conveniently and readily as petrol supplies were picked up in pre-war days.
